Bo-Kaap is one of Cape Town’s most culturally significant and visually striking neighborhoods. Nestled at the foot of Signal Hill, this historic Cape Malay quarter is famous for its brightly colored houses and 18th-century cobblestone streets. Originally built as rental houses for enslaved people, the residents began painting them in vivid hues as a celebration of their freedom and cultural identity after the abolition of slavery.
